Privacy Policy
Last Updated · 2026-09-10Alivia ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"), including both our local self-care tools and our Advisor Chat and Wallet services (collectively, the "Service").
Local first where it counts. Your mood logs, journal entries and voice recordings are stored on your device and are not uploaded to us. Advisor Chat and Wallet are different: they need an account and our servers in order to work at all. This policy sets out exactly which is which.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in the following categories.
1.1 User-Generated Content (Stored Locally)
- Mood Data: Ratings, feelings, and emotions you log.
- Journal Entries: Text notes and descriptions of your day.
- Voice Recordings: Audio files you record via the voice diary feature.
Storage. This data is stored locally on your device's internal storage. We (the developer) do not have access to it unless you explicitly export it and send it to us for support purposes.
1.2 Account Information (Stored on Our Servers)
Advisor Chat and Wallet require an account. To operate it we collect and store:
- a user ID and other service-related identifiers;
- the display name you choose;
- login method and authentication-related information;
- device token, account status, registration date, and basic account settings.
1.3 Advisor Chat Data (Stored on Our Servers)
To provide Advisor Chat we collect and store:
- the Advisors you view, follow, or contact;
- text messages exchanged with Advisors, and their timestamps;
- consultation records, session duration, and service consumption data;
- ratings, feedback, reports or complaints you submit about an Advisor or a consultation.
We store these messages to (i) provide chat functionality and chat history, (ii) provide customer support, and (iii) maintain trust and safety, for example investigating abuse and enforcing our Terms.
1.4 Wallet and Transaction Data (Stored on Our Servers)
- your Virtual Currency balance and its purchase and crediting records;
- consumption records, such as deductions for chat time;
- promotional credits, bonuses and redemption history;
- order identifiers and eligibility or anti-abuse signals related to purchases.
We do not receive or store your payment card details. Purchases are processed by Google Play's billing system under your agreement with Google.
1.5 Automatically Collected Usage Data (Analytics)
We use a third-party analytics tool (specifically PostHog) to help us understand how the App is used and to improve stability.
- Data Collected: Device model, operating system version, region (not precise location), app crashes, session duration, and feature usage patterns (e.g., "User tapped 'Play Meditation'").
- Identifiers: Analytics events are linked to a pseudonymous identifier for your device or account, so that we can count sessions, follow a user journey through the App, and diagnose crashes. This data is pseudonymous, not anonymous, and we do not describe it as anonymous.
- Minimisation: We configure analytics to minimise collection. We do not transmit the contents of your mood logs, journal text, or voice recordings to PostHog, and we do not send the contents of Advisor chat messages to PostHog. Withholding those contents does not by itself make the remaining event data anonymous.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Service, including saving your journals locally on your device.
- To create, authenticate, manage and secure your account.
- To operate Advisor Chat, including one-on-one sessions and chat history.
- To operate the Wallet, apply rates, record consumption, and administer promotions.
- To respond to enquiries, provide customer support, and resolve disputes.
- To detect, investigate and prevent fraud, abuse, policy violations and security incidents, and to moderate content and maintain trust and safety.
- To detect and prevent technical issues, using technical logs.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Voice Data and Biometric Privacy
Important Notice Regarding Voice Features: When you use the voice journaling feature, audio files are created and stored on your device.
- No Voiceprints: We do not perform biometric analysis on your recordings to identify you. We do not create "voiceprints" or "templates" from your audio.
- No Upload: Voice recordings are not uploaded to our servers, are not shared with Advisors, and are not sent to any analytics provider.
- Retention: Voice files are retained on your local device until you delete them. If you delete the entry or the App, these files are removed from your device.
- Device backup: If you have Google Drive backup or a similar service switched on, your operating system may copy App data, including voice files, into your own cloud account. That copy is made by your device, not by us; it sits in storage you control and is governed by your agreement with Google or your device manufacturer. To remove it, delete the backup through that provider.
- Consent: By using the voice feature, you consent to the recording and local storage of your voice for the sole purpose of personal journaling.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage & Device Backup. Your mood logs, journal entries and voice recordings are stored on your device. We do not maintain a central database of user journals. However, if you have Google Drive backup or a similar device backup service enabled, your operating system may automatically upload App data to your personal cloud storage. That is governed by your agreement with Google or your device manufacturer, not by us.
4.2 Server Storage (Advisor Chat & Wallet). Account information, Advisor chat messages and Wallet records are stored on our servers so that these features can work. We use that data only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.
4.3 Security Measures. We implement reasonable security measures, including industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS/SSL), access controls for data stored on our servers, and encryption of data at rest on the device filesystem. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
5. Sharing and Third-Party Processors
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising networks that track you across apps. We may share data with the following categories of recipients:
- Advisors: To facilitate a one-on-one session we share your display name and the chat messages you send with the specific Advisor you choose to consult. Advisors are independent contractors, not our employees. Please do not share sensitive financial information, such as full card numbers or banking credentials, in chat.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers: Used to host server-side features such as Advisor Chat and Wallet.
- PostHog: For product analytics and stability, configured to minimise data collection. (Privacy Policy: https://posthog.com/privacy)
- Google Play: Processes in-app purchases and handles billing and any monetary refunds. (Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy)
- Legal authorities: Where required by law, or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, security, or to comply with valid legal process.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Retention periods vary by data type:
- local mood logs, journal entries and voice recordings remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App;
- account information is retained while your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards;
- Advisor chat history is retained to provide chat history and to support trust and safety investigations;
- Wallet, purchase, consumption and refund records may be retained longer where required for tax, audit, accounting, chargeback handling or compliance purposes;
- analytics and technical logs are retained for shorter periods unless needed for security or troubleshooting.
7. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Depending on your location, you may have specific rights regarding your data.
7.1 GDPR (European Users)
- Right to Access/Rectification: You can view and edit your local data directly in the App. You may also request access to the server-side data associated with your account, such as Advisor chat history and Wallet records.
- Right to Erasure: You can delete individual entries in the App, or delete all local data by uninstalling it. You may also request deletion of server-side account data, including Advisor chat history, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: You can revoke Microphone or other app permissions in your Android system settings at any time.
- Data Portability: You may request an export of certain data where the App supports export functionality.
7.2 CCPA/CPRA (California Users)
- Right to Know: You may request details about the categories of data we collect and disclose.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of personal information we hold on our servers, subject to legal exceptions.
- Right to Opt-Out: We do not "sell" or "share" your personal data as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, so there is no need to opt out of sale.
- Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: We use sensitive data only to provide the Service you requested.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at cs@astriva.co. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request. For account deletion specifically, see Section 8, which sets out the in-app route, the email route, what is removed and what we must keep.
8. Deleting Your Account and Data
You can delete your Alivia account and the data we hold on our servers. The request routes are described below. Local data is handled separately, as explained in Section 8.5.
8.1 In the App
Open Mine → Setting → Delete account in the App and confirm. This submits the deletion request directly.
8.2 By Email
You can also request deletion without accessing the App. Email cs@astriva.co with the subject "Account deletion request", from the address associated with your account, and include your user ID or display name so we can locate it. We may ask for further information to verify that the request is yours. We aim to respond within 30 days.
8.3 What Deletion Removes
- your account and its identifiers, display name and settings;
- your Advisor chat history held on our servers;
- your Wallet balance, including any remaining Virtual Currency and promotional credits, which are removed on deletion and cannot be restored or redeemed for cash, subject to any refund rights under applicable law and Section 6.4 of our Terms;
- ratings, reports and support correspondence linked to your account, except where we must keep them under Section 8.4.
If you wish to request a refund, please contact support before deleting your account so we can review the purchase. Account deletion does not waive any refund rights under applicable law or Section 6.4 of our Terms.
8.4 What We Keep, and Why
- Transaction records. Purchase, consumption and refund records are retained where required for tax, audit, accounting and chargeback purposes, for the period required by applicable law.
- Trust and safety records. Where an account has been involved in fraud, abuse, or a safety report, we may retain the minimum information needed to enforce our Terms and protect other users and Advisors.
- Legal holds. Data subject to a legal obligation or an ongoing legal claim is retained until that obligation ends.
- Analytics. Pseudonymous analytics data is personal data and is covered by your deletion request, subject to the retention exceptions described above. Aggregate statistics may be retained only if they do not identify you and cannot be linked back to you.
8.5 Your Local Data Is Separate
Your mood logs, journal entries and voice recordings live on your device and are not part of an account deletion, because we never held them. Delete individual entries in the App, or uninstall the App to remove all of them. If device backup is switched on, delete the backup through Google Drive or your device manufacturer as well.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Advisor Services are for adults only. Advisor Chat and Wallet features are intended for users aged 18 and over. If we become aware that a minor has used Advisor Services or provided personal information to us, we will take steps to delete that information and restrict access, as appropriate.
10. International Data Transfers
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with data protection laws, please note that server-side data such as account, Advisor Chat and Wallet data, together with pseudonymous analytics data, may be processed in countries where we or our service providers operate, including the United States. Where required by law we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses and data processing agreements, to protect those transfers.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
